Competition Rules

  • Competition Time
    • Official Competition Time: From 12:00 PM on September 21, 2024, to 1:00 PM on September 22, 2024.
    • Optimization and Presentation Stage: Between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM on September 22, teams are allowed to fine-tune and improve their products for the final presentation. However, the judging will be based on the product submitted before 1:00 PM.
    • Submission Deadline: All teams must submit their projects via a GitHub repository by 1:00 PM on September 22, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted. Please allow sufficient time for uploading and verifying submissions.
  • No Substantive Work Before the Competition
    • Any substantive development or coding work before the official start of the competition is strictly prohibited. Participants may brainstorm and plan the product but are not allowed to write any code or set up systems. This rule ensures fairness and encourages teams to focus on efficient development during the competition period.
  • Team Size and Grouping Rules
    • During the competition, participants are allowed to freely form and change teams, and they are encouraged to adjust the team according to skills and needs. However, by the time the product is submitted, the team size cannot exceed four people. Teams exceeding the limit will not be scored.
  • Collaboration Rules
    • Any participant has the right to assist others, including members of other teams or staff. This open collaborative atmosphere encourages knowledge sharing and teamwork. However, no participant or staff member is obligated to provide help, and the final product is still the responsibility of each team.
  • Use of AI
    • AI Tools: Participants are allowed to use any generative AI tools (such as code generation, text generation, etc.) to assist in project development, except for specifically noted limitations (e.g., "Dijkstra's Coding Contest" cannot use AI tools). Participants must ensure that AI-generated content is legally compliant and should note the use of AI tools in their submissions.
  • Code Originality and Intellectual Property
    • The product submitted by the team must be original and cannot directly use someone else's codebase or product unless the resources are open source and suitable for this type of competition. Judges have the right to request proof of code originality and take measures against violations.
    • After the competition, participants retain the intellectual property rights to their submitted products, but the organizers reserve the right to display or share outstanding works.
  • Dijkstra's Coding Contest Restrictions
    • Special AI Limitation: No generative AI tools are allowed in the "Dijkstra's Coding Contest." Other parts of the competition are not subject to this restriction, but participants are still expected to complete core tasks independently.
Additional Information
  • Support During the Competition: The organizers will provide technical and non-technical support but do not guarantee that every issue will be resolved promptly. Participants should strive to solve problems independently and seek help from other teams or staff when necessary.
  • Judging Panel: The panel will consist of experts from technology, design, and business fields, who will provide comprehensive and impartial evaluations of each product. The decisions made by the judges are final and cannot be appealed.

What to Build

Participants are encouraged to build solutions that address challenges related to our theme, which will be revealed at the beginning of the hackathon. Possible projects include:

  • Web or mobile applications
  • Machine learning models
  • Hardware-based solutions
  • Creative tools to improve daily life or solve global problems

Be creative! We welcome out-of-the-box projects that showcase your team's innovation and technical skills.

What to Submit

For your project submission, please include the following:

  • Submission Format: Teams must submit a public GitHub repository. The repository should contain all source code, documentation, and a README file. The README file must include at least the following:
    • Team Member Information: The names, majors, and roles of each team member.
    • Product Overview: A brief introduction to the product's core functionality, technical stack, and design concept.
    • (Optional: Bonus Points) Installation and Usage Guide: If the judges intend to run or test the product, the README should provide clear steps and dependency instructions.
  • Demo Video: A 2-3 minute video demonstrating your solution in action.
  • Team Details: List of all team members and their roles.

Make sure your project is submitted before the deadline!

Scoring Criteria (100 points)

  • Technology - 30 points
    • Technical Stack: The complexity and diversity of the technical stack used by the team will directly influence the score. Utilizing cutting-edge or emerging technologies, open-source tools, and appropriate architecture design will be considered a bonus.
    • Feature Complexity: The richness and practicality of the product's features will impact the score. Products with complex and useful functionalities that involve advanced technical implementations will receive higher scores. Teams are encouraged to innovate and implement complex algorithms, but the functionalities must remain practical and reliable.
  • Design - 25 points
    • Innovation: Unique design concepts and innovative user experiences are key factors in the design score. The product should introduce new, unseen ideas or offer a fresh perspective and solutions in existing markets.
    • Aesthetic Design: The aesthetics and user-friendliness of the UI/UX will affect the score. The user experience should be intuitive, clean, and visually appealing, making it easy for users to navigate and engage.
  • Business - 25 points
    • Meeting Market Needs: The product's ability to address real market demands is the core of the business score. Judges will focus on the product's business viability, market potential, and ability to solve pain points.
    • Market Positioning: Participants need to clearly articulate the target audience and market positioning of their product. High-scoring products should target a specific user group and have a clear business model.
  • Presentation - 15 points
    • Product Presentation: How the team presents their product during the final demo is crucial. A high-quality presentation should be concise and clear, effectively communicating the product's core functionalities and value.
    • Technical and Business Explanation: The presentation should not only showcase the product but also explain its technical implementation and business potential in a way that non-technical individuals can understand its value.
  • Diversity of Majors - 5 points
    • Integration of Multiple Disciplines: Whether the team integrates knowledge from different fields (e.g., computer science, design, marketing, etc.) during product development will directly influence the score. Collaboration across multiple disciplines can provide the product with diverse perspectives and more comprehensive solutions.
